How to Book Train Ticket Online – Step by Step Guide

How to Create a Free IRCTC Account
If you already have an IRCTC account, skip to the next section. If not, follow these quick steps:
Go to irctc.co.in
Open your browser and visit irctc.co.in — the official Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation website.
Click on Register
Click the Register button on the top right corner of the homepage. Fill in your name, username, password, mobile number, and email address.
Verify Your Mobile Number
An OTP will be sent to your mobile number. Enter it to verify and complete your registration. Your IRCTC account is now ready to use.
Steps to Book Train Ticket Online
Log In to IRCTC
Go to irctc.co.in and log in with your username and password. Complete the captcha verification if shown.
Enter Journey Details
In the search box, enter your From Station, To Station, and Date of Journey. Select your preferred class (Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, 1AC, or General) and click Search Trains.
Select Your Train
A list of available trains will appear. Choose the train that suits your timing. Check the seat availability shown in green (Available), yellow (WL — Waitlist), or red (Not Available).
Click "Book Now"
Click the Book Now button next to your preferred train and class. You will be taken to the passenger details page.
Enter Passenger Details
Enter the name, age, gender, and berth preference (Lower, Middle, Upper, Side Lower, Side Upper) for each passenger. You can add up to 6 passengers per booking.
Select Boarding Station
If the train has multiple stops in your area, select your preferred boarding station from the dropdown menu.
Proceed to Payment
Review all details and click Proceed to Pay. Choose your payment method — UPI, debit card, credit card, net banking, or IRCTC wallet. Complete the payment.
Download Your e-Ticket
After payment, your e-ticket (PNR ticket) will be generated. Download it or save the PNR Number. You can also view it anytime in the Booked History section of your IRCTC account.
